Dont know what you are worried about...

it looks like you ve got a setting on the forum that auto reduces the
size of the pic anyway.

Big pics dont slow the forum down, all that s posted on the forum
is text... all the action takes place at the server of photobucket
or image shack .

The only prob that I can think of is if someone has a setting
to load say 20 posts per page... then it might take time for
all the thumbs etc to load depending on his b band speed

But I think you can cut it down to 5 or 6 posts per page
or even have that as default for the forum

so theres really no prob... big pictures look great too !

The forum software does resize the photos but the full size photo still loads, it doesn't reduce it's file size, just the dimensions of the picture.

The problem is that on this forum many high res images are posted and if everyone posts the full sized photos it will take longer to load. Check out most of the threads and you'll see most photos are well over 1 megabyte.

Also using thumbnails just looks better, especially for those using tablets and smartphones. Most celebrity websites will only allow thumbnails to be posted.

I know this is something I've been slacking off on checking, the Kari Byron thread for example but even in that thread those that post high resolution sceencaps for each episode have been good about thumbnailing those at least.

Also photobucket is lame. There's already a bunch of photos that are no longer viewable in the modeling section posted by an ex moderator because she used photobucket and the allotted bandwidth got used up.

It's easy to use thumbnails.

Everyones on B Band these days so the loading of big pics..
I go back to that setting of making it 4 posts per page or something
then only a few posts will load

you can have the setting for 20 posts per page or something and it will take
an age.

Theres no prob really , but OK in future I will try to remember to post thumbs.

By the way... photobucket.... the pics dont go dead in there,
what is happening is that someone has posted the thumbs to you and prob
to some other forums... maybe one very busy forum

It might be that by the 21st of the month she has used up all the
meg that photobucket allow you to be downloaded from your pics.

You think the thumbs are dead, but they will come back... maybe a week later
when she gets her new monthly allowance of meg

I dont use ph bucket a lot these days because of that problem but Ive still got
lots of pics up there from way back and because the pics are so old theres now no way my meg allowance
will be running out

I know most are on broadband these days but there are still those using smartphones to browse the forum who may be on limited data plans. Of course they have the option of disabling images but then what's the point on a photo forum? Anyway, thanks for understanding. I'm glad you've been posting. http://redheads.b1.jcink.com/uploads/redheads//post-22-1274316687.gif

Just posted some ph buck thumbs on patsy p thread

just checked and ph buck now give you 10 gigs worth of download per month

if a photo is say 90 k , gonna take a lot of downloads to get through
10 gig ! but if you post on a very hot forum with 10,000 plus members
you prob will.

Thanks for posting the thumbs. 10 gigs sounds like a lot but like you said, on a forum with a lot of active members that gets used up fast.

I was never a fan of photobucket since a few years back I had some of the forum files hosted there and they disappeared. Fortunately now I'm able to host the files directly on the board.

Also I hate that their thumbnails don't link directly to the large version of the photo, it's the same with imageshack which I've stopped using. It's ashame because imageshack used to be the best photo hosting site.

A lot of photo hosting sites have issues though. A new one will come along and then everyone starts using it and then they fold because their servers can't handle all the bandwidth.

I mostly use imagebam because it's been around for years now. Imageupper is another good one. The only thing with those sites is you need to make sure you mark your photos as 'family safe' or they'll post porn ads when you go to view them.
